Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid Ronaldo’s late goal end Barca 39 game unbeaten run
FC Barcelona took on Real Madrid in the last El Clasico of the season at Camp Nou this saturday night and it turned out a very competitive game. Real Madrid played with a deep defensive line and gave away larger chunk of possession but looked threatening on counter attacks. Barcelona pretty much dominated the first 0-0 half but came to life in second half when Gerard Pique scored from a corner kick to make it 1-0 for the home side.
Sergio Ramos was sent off towards the end of the game taking his fourth red card in El Clasico but that did not bother Real Madrid who countered with numbers and Bale found Ronaldo at the far post who found the back of the net through Claudio Bravo legs after a superb chest control.

A Johan Cruyff tribute started the proceedings in the saturday’s clasico and it was promised to be a much more competitive game than the last time these two meet back in October. First half ended in a 0-0 draw but Barcelona pretty much dominated with superior ball possession and Real Madrid were could just play on the counter from time to time.
Sergio Ramos looked to have brought down Lionel Messi inside the box but referee waved play on while couple of other dodgy decisions kept Real Madrid in the game. After the break Gerard Pique scored the opening goal of the game with a devastating header to put Barcelona in the lead. But Karim Benzema brought Madrid back into the game with a acrobatic shot after Kroos cross was half cleared.
Karim Benzema’s goal opened up the game as both teams went for the kill and we had exciting last half hour where Gareth Bale’s perfectly find headed goal was ruled out for pushing.
Ramos was a lucky boy on the pitch as the footage shows he clearly brought down Messi inside the box but got away with the challege. But his luck was eventually run out when his late lunge on Suarez resulted in second yellow and a sending off.
Real Madrid though took the lead minutes later when Cristiano Ronaldo scored with a superb effort after a good chest control and a finish taking Real madrid 2-1 up at Camp Nou and ended Barcelona’s 39 game unbeaten run.
Barcelona has been in absolute beast form this season and they are currently 39 games unbeaten in all competitions while Real Madrid’s league titles hopes are certainly over as they trail Barcelona by 10 points going into this weeks el clasico but they still have pride to play for and a win against Barcelona at Camp Nou will only enhance their confidence for remainder of the season where they will play Wolfsburg in Champions League in midweek.
It will be the first El Clasico for Zidane who took over as Real Madrid manager at the start of the year after they sacked Rafael Benitez. Madrid had mixed results under Zidane dominant at home but struggling to break down teams away from home has been the theme. They will find difficult to get the better of inform Barcelona side who will have their attacking trio all fit and raring to go.
Las time these two meet was back in November when Barcelona hammered Real Madrid 4-0 at Santiago Bernabeu.
Team News & Lineups: Reports in Spanish media suggest that Zidane is likely to field a three man midfield with Casemiro, Kroos and Modric starting in central roles while Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Ronaldo to start upfront in three man attack. Ramos and Verane are likely to take the central defense roles.
This is how I expect both teams to lineup on Saturday. We will have more team news 1 day before the start of the game.
Match Predictions: Looking at both teams form its easier to fall into making Barcelona as hot favourites to win this game. Luis Enrique has enjoyed a successful period over Real Madrid and their most recent meeting ended in what was a very one sided 4-0 win for Barcelona at Santiago Bernabue. Luis Suarez was the star of the show scoring a brace while Iniesta and Messi were on target as well. Ronaldo do have a knack of scoring important goals against Barcelona and it might turn out to be last El Clasico for Ronaldo as he is widely tipped to leave Madrid at the end of the season.
Zidane is likely to go with a three man midfield to counter Barcelona’s superior possession and try to hit them on counter attacks with Bale and Ronaldo playing on the flanks. Barcelona’s defense has not been full tested this season and if Real madrid can put themselves together and play as a team they might be able to create a few problem for Pique in company. Having said that with Messi, Neymar and Suarez playing upfront Barcelona will always have goals in them and I expect them to atleast hit the target twice. So I am going with a 2-1 win for Barcelona.
